Devil Wears Prada

If you had known me in my professional years, you might have thought I had it all together. The bright red lipstick, the selection of power suits, the perfect French roll airline hostess hair.

Do you remember Miranda Priestly she was one of the lead characters in the movie Devil Wears Prada? I can remember when the movie came out. Miranda’s character in this movie illustrated me, I resonated with her character perfectly. I could even play back situations in my head, where I know they would have ‘called ahead’, warning others 'she' is coming.

The twist to this storyline, is this is how the world had created and expected me to be. I portrayed the role extremely well. From a young age, even from my after-school employment, I was placed into roles of management and leadership. My expectations of others were high, and my lack of patience meant I had little tolerance for others.

Beneath this polished exterior was a woman who had learned to be strong, capable and in control – perhaps sometimes because that was the situation demanded of me.

Did I enjoy that power? Did I feel I was living up to the expectations placed on me?

But who was I really beneath that polished exterior?

Let the story be continued......

With love
